How To Get A Dog To Stop Barking

Dogs move around in packs and they usually develop bad habits and temperamental issues when they are isolated and lonely. How to get a dog to stop barking effectively can be easily done through Dog Socialization which is one of the most important techniques used.

Why Do Dogs Bark?

I recently got a 5-month-old Rottweiler after leaving her with a friend for a while. She’s only been with me for two days, but her nighttime barking is out of this world.

Like she’s on a mission to wake up the entire neighbourhood with her deafening shrieks! She’s free throughout the day but confined at night………funny right!

Am sure, you must have experienced such, especially with young dogs who are new to their environment, If not prepare for a quiet night with a bit of awakeness.

Barking is a form of vocal communication that dogs use, and it can mean different things depending on the situation. Dogs bark for:

Protecting their territories

When a person or an animal comes into an area your dog considers his territory, that would make him bark. As the threat gets closer, the barking often gets louder. Your dog will look alert and even aggressive during this type of barking.

Signal or fear

Some dogs would bark at any noise or object whether flying or rolling including lizards, birds, etc. And especially when they aren’t introduced to such an Environment well. You got to train them with the method I am about to describe below.

Boredom or Loneliness

If you leave your dogs isolated for long periods they become agitated and mentally unstable. This would often make them unhappy which leads to aggression and barking.

This is a happy bark, and some dogs may use it to greet you or other animals they care about. It is frequently followed by tail wags and, on rare occasions, jumping.

Attention Seeking

They could bark to seek your attention. Some dogs could bark when they want something, such as going outside, playing, or getting a treat

Separation Anxiety

This could be the problem with your dog. Puppies usually face this problem after they are been taken away from their mum and siblings. Dogs with separation anxiety often bark excessively when and especially when left alone.

How to Get a dog to stop barking excessively

How To Get A Dog To Stop Barking

There are various ways to stop your dog from barking unnecessarily, without any genuine reasons.

Get a Toy/Bones

Get a lot of bones or toys, when your dog starts his barking session, give him the bone( 5x bigger than his actual mouth size). I bet you, by the time he’s done with a dozen bones, he’d have forgotten what he was barking at initially. Try this, thank me later…woof!

Both of you should enjoy a good walk, meet new people and their dogs, and make new friends. Visit dog parks, and introduce him to new situations. The majority of dog owners around the world don’t know the importance of socialization.

It should be one of the first things you do when you get a pup. Socializing your dog doesn’t mean it won’t do what it’s supposed to do when the need arises (if you’ve got the correct breed with working characteristics)

Ensure you are a good leader

Being a good leader will help to get a good result on how to get a dog to stop barking. Introduce a motivational Command – “LOOK HERE”… This can be used to redirect your dog’s attention in many other situations.

Don’t do this to a barking dog! please

Kindly be mindful of your actions towards your dogs, especially when you visualize them thinking like humans. In which they can’t.

Don’t punish a barking dog

I sometimes get annoyed by it, but punishing a dog for doing something that’s as natural to the canine as breathing and eating seems rather pointless and ridiculous even dog owners that conduct such acts are worst than a pig.

I don’t believe that other animal species are on this planet solely for the purpose of entertaining or adhering to mankind’s demands and desires.

Don’t you think that’s a little too arrogant? You only know how to punish but you personally hate punishments.

So if you know you usually punish your dog unrightfully, kindly change your ways or keep your idiotic training abilities for yourself who needs good training.

DO NOT USE A BARK COLLAR! DO NOT HAVE SURGERY ON THE DOG TO REMOVE HIS BARKING ABILITY. How would you like your voicebox removed? You need to be trained in how to humanely & efficiently TEACH your dog.

If you have neither the ability to learn techniques nor the required patience, please re-home the dog to someone who is equipped to do so. I suggest you either rent or buy the training video by CESAR MILAN or Learn How to stop dog jumping with this EBOOK.

Above all, NEVER YELL OR SLAP THE DOG. He is only following his instincts. Two years ago my pup was a barker. It was annoying but I was patient & figured he’d settle down eventually. Hitting correction might be needed but must be timed well and motivational for your dog not scary.
